Hi, I'm Sarah Gibbs. I'm currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Environment & Society from the University of South Alabama under the direction of Dr. Steven Scyphers and Dr. Jonathan Grabowski (Northeastern University) in the Social-Ecological Sustainability Lab. My dissertation presented case studies exemplifying how different forms of participatory research can be used to harness key social science data for use in ecosystem-based management.
Broadly, my research is interdisciplinary, focusing on co-production of knowledge to enhance decision making and resilience. I am particularly interested in harnessing diverse streams of knowledge for use in natural resource management contexts. At the Western Forest and Fire Initiative, I am investigating how assistance providers utilize systems thinking to make decisions for protecting vulnerable groups from compound wildfire hazards in the PNW.
